Queens Gettin’ Lit! is a culturally responsive literacy initiative founded in 2019 to empower Black girls through reading, writing, cultural heritage, and creative expression. Serving scholars ages 8–18 across the San Francisco Bay Area, the program strengthens literacy and critical thinking skill development while building confidence, leadership, and community among young people.

Through culturally affirming curriculum, creative writing experiences, and public performance opportunities like the CROWN THE MIC Spoken Word Showcase, Queens Gettin’ Lit! creates platforms where youth voices are elevated and celebrated. The organization centers the belief that literacy is a powerful tool for cultural heritage identity development, critical thinking, and self-expression.

By partnering with schools, families, and community organizations, Queens Gettin’ Lit! works to expand access to meaningful literacy experiences and ensure that every young person has the opportunity to see themselves as a storyteller, scholar, and change maker.
