Angry Black Woman 101: A Daring Solo Show by Kathryn Seabron
Pittsburg, CA — Equity for Black Women and Girls, RCF Connects and Mechanics Bank are
proud to present Angry Black Woman 101, a bold and thought-provoking solo performance
written and performed by award-winning artist Kathryn Seabron. This resonant theatrical
experience will be shown one night at California Theater, 351 Railroad Avenue. Pittsburg,
CA.
Angry Black Woman 101 dives into the lived realities of misogynoir, microaggressions, and
racial and gender bias that Black women encounter in everyday life. Inspired by Seabron’s own
experiences working at a nonprofit, this one-woman show utilizes a powerful blend of
storytelling, poetry, vignettes, and multimedia elements to illuminate the emotional and systemic
hurdles Black women face in the workplace, in social spaces, and across cultural landscapes.
The performance also critically addresses how white women’s tears are often weaponized to
silence and undermine Black women’s voices and experiences.
Directed by Lynn Vidal and presented in association with the Bay Area Women’s Theatre
Festival. The show offers both raw honesty and visceral insight into issues that are often
overlooked or dismissed. The show will be followed by a panel discussion that will engage the
audience in discussion that will not only provide deeper understanding of the pervasive
dynamics of race and gender in American society, but also a renew their commitment to self-
empowerment, empathy and commitment to equity.
